Gulf Coast Update

July 15th, 2009 admin

Dear Pastors, Superintendents and Friends of the Southern District:

Our Gulf Coast recovery projects are in very great need.
The numbers of work teams have dropped off dramatically. Waveland, Gulfport, New Orleans and Baton Rouge are all in need of volunteers to continue with the recovery ministries. Each location is different than the others so the needs vary somewhat.

Waveland and New Orleans still have hundreds, if not thousands, of homes that are in need of restoration. The wonderful ministry of Alliance people from all over the country has been an incredible testimony. And as a result numerous people have come to Christ. From the days just after Katrina we have known that it would take years to see the region really restored. Gulfport is developing an incredible ministry called “Freedom Hall” which will provide a wide variety of community events, outreaches and practical helps to the residents. Waveland not only has developed a growing new church but the Community Development side of things continues to rebuild homes and do a number of very exciting outreaches. New Orleans has developed an international church and continues to help people restore damaged homes. Baton Rouge has undergone many changes and the facility is in need of some finishing work so new and very needed outreaches can be instituted. We are seeking a new African American Pastor to assume leadership. Will you kindly pray regarding this special need?

It would be a great help if each district would send out the word to their churches that the need for work teams is still very critical. The wonderful, sacrificial volunteers who are living on site full time are unable to handle these incredible needs by themselves.

Please do not hesitate to call or send us an email asking questions or offering to bring a team to the Gulf Coast. Your contact person will be Frank Smith.

Thank you for all your generosity and hard work over the past few years. God has used you to make a great difference for the Kingdom!

In the joy of His service,

Fred King
